Belt Promotions for 7 La Pérouse Judoka

The United State Judo Federation Black Belt Committee has decided to promote
Alix Desmole - Ceinture noire - Black Belt - 1st dan - Shodan.
6 other judoka from the Lycée La Pérouse have also been promoted.
Kevin Desmole - Purple Belt
Axelle Weeger - Green Belt
Sara Landau - Orange Belt
Alexandre Seutin - Orange Belt
Lorenzo Baldo - 1/2 Orange Belt
Quentin Weissenburger - 1/2 Yellow Belt.

Black belt promotion is very strict and tedious - The player has:
  • to compete in order to score points,
  • to present in front of a jury the first nine throws of Nage no Kata,
  • to be able to referee.

For other color belt promotions, the club black belt committee can decide who to promote, which is mainly based on competition results.

City College December 7 2008

San Francisco – Sunday December 7th, 2008.
23 judokas from the Lycée entered the City College Tournament. Among those 23 competitors, 3 of them were fighting for the first time; Matthieu Kaman (5ième, 7th), Peter Bieman (3ième, 9th) and Solène Poulhazan (CM1, 4th). Our judokas did an average of 4 fights. I wish to recognize the outstanding performance of Alexis Dumon (CE2- 3rd) who won all his matches by Ippon. After each tournament, at the beginning of our weekly training, with all the judo players, we have a debriefing. It allows our players to express themselves about what they liked or disliked, the technique that they wish to work more. This discussion is very important because it allows our young judokas to talk about their frustrations if they had any and talked about the technique they used to throw their opponents.
For those who stayed a little bit longer, we were able to watch the senior black belt division where we have been able to admire a judoka from the judo national Chinese team for the quality of his technique.
Congratulations to all our players.

29 Judokas competed on November 8 and 9

Saturday November 8th, at the South San Francisco Boys & Girls, 15 competitors showed up. This tournament was geared towards beginners, white and yellow Belt. An opportunity for our young athletes to get used to competitions. They were gathered by age and size and fought an average of 4 matches and each match could last up to 3 minutes.
Congratulations to Arya Valentino, Gexan & Joana Arrechea, Maxwell Meadows, Marin Gomart, Janet Brusil, Sebastian Kobus-Bergin, Murat Magomedov, Sophie Meunier, Matthew Stevens and Nicolas Manrique for their very first participation to a judo tournament. Some of them were able to secure a place on the podium. Bravo for their courage and commitment.
Sunday November 9th, the Palo Alto tournament was for our more experienced players. This competition gathered more than 250 young competitors. 14 of them were coming from the Lycée and fought vigorously. I want to congratulate all of them. I also want to thank the parents who had to wait quite a long time before seeing their athletes to fight.
